In reading, learners will work on building good reading habits, learning about the world through nonfiction, and studying story elements. Learners will work on word solving skills, fluency, sight word recognition, and reading for meaning. We support children in small book groups teaching them how to solve words and self-monitor as they read so they can go off and do it independently!
In writing, students will work on the structure of personal and fictional narratives (writing with details, focus, and dialogue), nonfiction chapter books, and writing reviews. Idea development is encouraged, as well as many authentic writing experiences. Other writing genres, such as friendly letters, persuasive writing, and poetry, will also be a part of our work.
